Background

Chameleon is a multi-purpose restaurant, coffee shop & bar situated in Garstang, near Preston. Built as part of a new build development, Chameleon is a place where customers can eat, drink and relax, whatever time of the day. It operates as a relaxed coffee bar and lunch/brunch destination during the day, and as a full-service, quality restaurant & cocktail bar in the evenings. Chameleon had high aspirations for both the type and quality of venue that they looked to design, as well as the versatility of the kitchen and restaurant facilities. Chameleon hired Acme to help them achieve their dream.

The Project

Being a new-build venue, Chameleon were particularly focused on ensuring the venue moulded modern equipment with characterful décor. Acme were tasked in finding front-of-house equipment that matched that specification, and working closely with shop-fitters to build them into bespoke surrounds.

Acme supplied a mixture of ice cream displays, serve-over displays and bottle fridges, as well as producing fabricated benches for the bar area. Acme also designed, supplied and installed a full turn-key kitchen for the restaurant, including all mechanical & electrical, a bespoke extraction canopy, benches & tabling. Due to the layout and nature of the building, it proved a challenging area to install a commercial kitchen and is where Acme’s high levels of experience came into play.

Due to several building pillars and the nature of the front-of-house, the design-teams at Acme worked hard to specify a compact kitchen that gave the flexibility and space for Chameleon to comfortably provide for the covers and range of menu that they wished. In addition, because the building they occupy was also residential and is located in close proximity to residential, Acme had to specify an all-electric kitchen with noise-reducing extractor fans.

Acme supplied a Lincat cookline, a Rational combination oven, pizza ovens and Blizzard refrigeration, as well as bespoke extraction canopies, tabling and benches from our sister company, The Canopy Company.

As well as all kitchen equipment, Acme fitted all gas and water pipework, installed hot water boilers and carried out all electrical and lighting works for the kitchen. Acme also fitted commercial kitchen flooring and hygienic white-roc walling throughout.

The End Result

Acme created an efficiently designed kitchen and contemporary front-of-house that provided the flexibility, versatility and contemporary style that Chameleon needed. Acme also worked closely with the head chef & local authorities to ensure the kitchen met both the practical and legislative requirements.

Micahel Botes from Chameleon said, “Its not just been the physical supply of the equipment, it’s been consulting on the various aspects that you’ve got to take into consideration when you’ve got residential property in the area. For me, they were extremely helpful on that front as well.”

Acme also supplied and integrated modern display units with a stainless steel finish and LED lighting.

Michael concluded, “You’ve looked after the whole process for me – you’ve made me feel comfortable with that service. It wasn’t straight forward – there were hurdles that we had to overcome – drainage, power supplies, but once I brought Leigh on with Acme, they were able to guide me through the things that I wasn’t so ofey with. It helped massively; they were a vital part of the equation.”
