The Challenge

The store's existing refrigeration equipment had been in operation for approximately 10 years.

Featuring older, open-fronted display cases, the refrigeration system was noisy and less energy efficient than the modern equipment available today.

The client wanted to create a more attractive shopping environment while reducing ongoing energy consumption and improving the overall customer experience.

However, time was critical.

The project needed to be delivered within a 10-day programme, with disruption and downtime kept to a minimum.

This required a carefully coordinated approach across refrigeration, engineering, shopfitting and project management.

The Project

Acme delivered an integrated refurbishment solution, managing the refrigeration upgrade alongside all associated shopfitting works.

At the centre of the project was the installation of new high-efficiency Arneg Osaka refrigerated display cabinets, selected to improve energy performance while creating a contemporary retail environment.

The wider scope included the removal and disposal of existing refrigeration equipment, demolition and store alterations, installation of new refrigeration pipework through ceiling voids, internal finishes, and the positioning and commissioning of the new cabinets.

By managing these activities under one coordinated programme, Acme provided the client with a single point of responsibility throughout the project.

The End Result

The refurbishment delivered improvements beyond the appearance of the store.

The new high-efficiency refrigeration cabinets are estimated to reduce energy consumption by approximately 65%, with projected annual energy cost savings of around £12,000.

The modernised refrigeration displays have also helped create a quieter and more user-friendly shopping environment, with a refreshed layout showcasing the store's product range.

Following completion, the store reported an increase in sales of approximately 20%.

Despite its compact footprint, the finished store now provides the product choice, accessibility and shopping experience associated with much larger convenience retail environments.
