How Often Should You Schedule Air Conditioning Maintenance?

Air conditioning (AC) is an essential component of any comfortable indoor environment, especially during summer months and hot environments such as kitchens. To keep your AC unit running efficiently and effectively, it’s important to plan regular maintenance, but how often should you schedule it to be completed?

As a company that specialises in air conditioning and ventilation, the Acme team are experts within the industry and we know everything you need to know about AC units. In this blog post, we’re going to explore the answer to the question above and the overall benefits of regular AC maintenance.

The importance of regular air conditioning servicing

Just like many other systems, machines, and devices, your air conditioner also requires servicing to keep it running smoothly and to ensure it continues to function optimally. Once your unit has been installed, after some time, dust, dirt, and debris will start to accumulate within the unit, which can cause it to work less efficiently. Without proper maintenance, your AC unit can experience problems such as decreased cooling capacity, higher energy bills, and even complete breakdowns.

Regular air conditioning maintenance can help prevent these issues and extend the life of your AC unit, to provide you with many years of service. It can also help identify potential problems before they become major issues, preventing costly repairs and replacements down the line.

The benefits of routine maintenance

  1. Energy efficiency

If your unit is well looked after, your air-con will run more economically, reducing energy consumption and in turn, lowering your energy bills. In fact, monthly costs can be reduced by 25% when your unit is routinely serviced.

  1. Improved air quality

Regular maintenance of your AC unit includes changing filters, cleaning coils, and ensuring appropriate airflow. Without these basic maintenance tasks, indoor air quality can massively decrease which will affect the health and well-being of your staff and visitors. By implementing a frequent cleaning routine, you can improve the air quality within your space, making the conditions both healthier and more comfortable.

  1. Extended lifespan

Air conditioning units can last many years, but only with proper maintenance and care. If you neglect your unit, dirt can build up and the mechanisms may malfunction. By eliminating the smaller problems before the more substantial ones arrive, you will need fewer repairs and the lifespan of your system will increase.

How often should you perform air conditioning maintenance?

Now that we have covered the importance of AC care, the next question is how often it should be carried out.

The intervals between AC maintenance will depend on the model of your unit and the conditions in which it is installed. However, ideally, your system should be serviced at least once or twice every year to ensure it is running at its fullest potential. If you use your unit frequently or if it is placed within an environment with higher temperatures, you may need to schedule more time to prepare for these demands.

During our visits, our expert technicians will inspect and clean your entire system. We comprehensively check the following to ensure they are performing correctly:

  • Refrigerant levels
  • Condenser coils
  • Filters
  • Evaporators
  • Ductwork
  • Fans
  • Motors
  • Water pumps
  • And more!

Although routine checks occur every once or twice a year, if you have noticed your unit doing any of the following, you will need to require immediate maintenance.

  1. If your AC system has become noisier, the filters might be clogged with dirt and dust. You can clean the filters yourself to ensure they’re cleared, however, if the noise continues you will need to call out a technician.
  2. If your energy bills spike, it could be down to your air conditioner. Your unit might not be installed correctly or working efficiently, which will cause the system to work harder.
  3. If your room is not cooling down as quickly as it used to, the refrigerant level might be too low. Depending on your unit model and the volume of refrigerant it holds, you might require more service checks within the year.

Here at Acme, we ensure that your AC is always performing to the highest standards by carrying out testing and compliance services. We have a proven track record of excellent customer service and have fitted out air conditioning and ventilation systems across the UK. Our team is on-hand 24/7/365, so if you have an urgent problem that needs dealing with, we will be there! Plus, if you choose us as your air-con provider, we can link your unit to your business management system, so if there is an issue with your AC you will be alerted straight away and we will come and ensure it is back up and running as soon as possible.
