Background

Joseph Holt are one of the North West’s leading breweries, with an incredible heritage stretching back to 1849. Joseph Holt operate over 126 pubs throughout the North West and have been a customer of Acme for over 30 years. Joseph Holt have recently invested in the expansion of their Gastro-Pub business, with multiple new site acquisitions and refurbishments, having recently gone from 9 to 17 food-led outlets in 12 months. Their aim was to create excellent, high-end dining experiences that delivered great tasting, value-for-money food in modern, contemporary gastro-pub setting. Building on our historic relationship, Joseph Holt asked Acme to help them deliver these ambitious projects and to support and maintain their equipment going forward.

The Projects

Acme’s licensed-trade team worked closely with Joseph Holt to deliver multiple projects across several sites over a 36 month period. The programme still continues, with further acquisitions and refits planned for the future.

When Joseph Holt conducts a refit, they don’t do it by half-measure. Far from a simple ‘lick-of-paint’, the company is renowned for totally stripping back restaurants and redeveloping them into outstanding, tastefully furnished, modern premises that quickly become a favourite dining location in the communities that they serve.

Joseph Holt demand high standards from all their contractors, and it was Acme’s responsibility to deliver the back-of-house facilities to match the high-calibre of the front-of-house. They needed Catering & Refrigeration facilities that could deliver for high numbers of customers across many years of heavy use. This is where Acme’s expertise really came into play.

Acme specified & delivered full turn-key kitchens, drinks cellars, back-bar equipment & bespoke carvery serving units for the new restaurants, including all catering & refrigeration equipment, extraction & bespoke fabrication.

The End Result

This job was everything for Acme – it was bar, washup, kitchen, carvery, external refrigeration, external dry store, extraction – the full package. Acme have a real understanding of what we need to produce our menu and they do a great job at specifying the right equipment. The end result is phenomenal”.

Marc added, “The installation was fantastic. No glitches whatsoever. The team of people, from your engineers that fit, to the teams that project manage and design it - they all work together, and they always get there. It’s there, it’s done, it’s right, it’s finished.”

Acme fitted a variety of heavy-duty cookline equipment for Joseph Holt, including high-end Blue Seal & Synergy Grill equipment, as well as Rational Combi-ovens, Alto-Sham cook & hold units & large refrigeration, preparation, wash-up & storage units. Heavy-duty equipment was chosen as the kitchens will be under heavy use, 14 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Acme managed the manufacturing of a bespoke extraction canopies, tabling and benches for kitchens as well as a bespoke carvery serving units for the front-of-house, which were all fitted by the Acme engineering teams.

Acme has installed a variety of cold rooms for Joseph Holt, including those housed in purpose-built extensions with associated building works.

Cellars have been fitted with a variety of Hubbard & Beer Master Units, and back-bar with a variety of refrigeration & warewash equipment.

Ongoing Service

Marc Broady, Group Acquisition & Development Manager, said “My biggest issue when I joined Joseph Holts was that we didn’t have service contracts. One of the things that stood out for Acme was the customer service helpdesk. It’s brilliant – it’s manned well, with people who understand the business, understand the kit and understand everything about the catering side of the business. You now offer me a 24 hour, 7 day a week service programme and it works brilliantly. The engineers will ring me, keep me updated on where they are up to, what they have repaired. It’s a brilliant service – it gives us peace-of-mind for in and out-of-hours emergencies.”

Acme provide 24/7/365 support for all catering, refrigeration & extraction equipment throughout Joseph Holts’ estate. Our excellent engineering coverage gives us the ability to deliver on tight SLA’s with extremely high SLA achievement rates.
